ASTM F1918 is the standard safety performance specification for soft contained play equipment, the enclosed, multi-level soft play structures common in churches. It covers materials, access and exit, structural integrity, maintenance, fire safety, and evacuation for users from roughly age 2 to 12.
ASTM F1487 covers public playground equipment and explicitly excludes soft contained play. It is the standard behind IPEMA certification, so an IPEMA seal is relevant to traditional playground equipment rather than soft contained play structures.
ADA accessibility guidelines affect routes, entries, and how children and caregivers of all abilities reach and use the space.
Fire and building codes, enforced by your local building official and fire marshal, often dictate fire-retardant or fire-rated materials, exits, and occupancy for interior play areas and theming.
